71REL Leak Tester

The gauge pressure method delivers fast results at an attractive price point. The test setup is simpler than that of differential pressure devices. Measurements using the gauge pressure method are less sensitive while covering a wider measuring range, making it ideal for inspecting components with higher permissible leakage rates.

The 71REL Leak Tester

HeMaTech Prüftechnik is known for its robust, durable, and highly accurate leak testers. Users around the world rely on HeMaTech’s reliability and service. Leak testers—often referred to as leak detection devices or simply “leak testers”—have become indispensable for leak testing in many industrial sectors. Whether in the laboratory or for in-process testing of mass-produced parts, our testers can be used in a wide variety of applications. Customers from a wide range of industries use our leak testers, including not only the automotive industry but also medical technology and electronics manufacturing.

The Affordable Alternative

The relative pressure method provides fast results at an attractive price. The test setup is simpler than with differential pressure devices, such as the 70PRO or 75ECO. Measurements using the relative pressure method are not as sensitive, but they cover a wider measurement range. This makes them ideal for testing components with a higher permissible leakage rate.

The leak tester can store 10,000 data records of test results for later use. Additionally, the data can be exported to a USB flash drive, for example, after each measurement.

The 71REL also offers a wide range of automation options.

The Functionality

The leak test procedure used, which is based on the relative pressure method, offers many advantages for the user:

An overview of the 71REL's features:

  • Compressed air as a test medium
  • Air can quickly seep through leaks
  • high measurement accuracy
  • reproducible measurements
  • Unambiguous measurement results
  • Contamination-free testing
  • Short cycle times combined with high precision
  • Space for 99 test programs
  • Storage for 10,000 result records
  • Direct export of results to a USB flash drive
  • Automated testing sequence
  • Can be integrated into plant designs
  • Profibus, Profinet, and RS-232 interfaces available
  • Display of the measured value and test result
  • Variable test pressures and test times for optimal adaptation to the manufacturing of diverse components
  • Easy to use thanks to intuitive user guidance
  • Service-friendly modular design

Air leak testing requires pressure-tight fixtures and/or sealing elements. HeMaTech can supply you with complete test stations or systems.

Calibration

A leak tester is always subject to a certain amount of wear and tear during operation, and electronic components can change their behavior over time. Therefore, a leak tester should be calibrated and maintained regularly.

We recommend having the equipment calibrated every 12 months. This can be done at our workshop or at your location.

HeMaTech Prüftechnik's calibration laboratory is accredited, which means we can also perform DAkkS calibrations.

How the Leak Tester Works

The method is based on measuring the change in pressure within a sealed volume (test specimen) over a specified measurement period, known as differential pressure measurement. A relative pressure transducer serves as the sensor.

Air escapes through a leak in a sealed volume (test specimen). This causes a pressure loss. The difference between the initial pressure and the pressure at the end of the measurement period can be measured using a relative pressure transmitter. The pressure difference is a measure of the existing leak and is independent of the test pressure or the prevailing ambient pressure. Inexpensive compressed air is used as the test medium. Due to its low viscosity, the air can quickly penetrate pores, tiny holes, cracks, or other sources of leakage.

The inspected parts are not soiled or contaminated. Therefore, rust protection, drying, or cleaning is not necessary.

A leak test is only possible if the test specimen is adapted using sealing elements or fixtures. HeMaTech also offers a customized solution for this—just ask us.

Operation

Test parameters are entered into a clear program schedule and require no special prior knowledge. On-screen help is available if needed. Data security is ensured by a write-protect key switch. When the device is locked, the parameters can only be read but not changed.

Higher-level control systems can communicate with the 71REL via a standard digital I/O interface or, optionally, via Profibus or Profinet. Test data and program parameters can also be exchanged via Profibus/Profinet. The 71REL can therefore be easily integrated into automated manufacturing processes.

Test programs can be entered directly into the test device very easily via the touchscreen or an optional connected keyboard. The devices also feature a built-in VNC server. Once connected to a network, the device can be accessed and operated via its IP address and a VNC client.

The front-panel USB port allows for easy storage of measurement data and test programs from the leak tester.
